WoodLINKS cabinetry students introduced to SERVO-DRIVE

Theodore Roosevelt High School’s WoodLINKS cabinetry students were introduced to Blum’s revolutionary new drawer opening system SERVO-DRIVE. Cabinetry students were able to experiment with a demo cabinet where they opened the drawers by touching the fronts with a hand or knee.

Blum sales representative, David Tress brought a SERVO-DRIVE demonstration cabinet to illustrate its benefits to TRHS cabinetry instructor Troy Spear’s students. Mr. Tress walked them through the product literature, explained the different SERVO-DRIVE components and showed them examples of each one. He also let the students install SERVO-DRIVE to see how easy it is.

Spear’s students quickly generated a list of potential applications: modern, handleless kitchens; large plate drawers or pot/pan drawers. Tress pointed out that it is also the perfect solution for a waste/recycle bin drawer in any kitchen. He explained how SERVO-DRIVE could be a great solution for people with disabilities (Universal Design).

David Harris, TRHS sophomore, asked if this hardware could be installed in existing cabinets and applications. Tress explained that cabinets equipped with Blum’s TANDEM plus BLUMOTION concealed runners or TANDEMBOX drawer systems can easily be retrofitted with SERVO-DRIVE. Evan Hart, TRHS senior, noted, “Everything just snapped or screwed into place very quickly.” Another cabinetry student, Trenton Shaffer, remarked how he was impressed that Mr. Tress took the time to demonstrate this new hardware to his class.
